REA’s May Encore Auction: Historic Baseball Cards & Memorabilia

Robert Edward Auctions (REA) is currently captivating sports collectors and enthusiasts alike with its May Encore auction, a magnificent showcase of over 3,600 lots filled with historical baseball card sets and rare memorabilia pieces. From complete 1950s baseball card sets to unique vintage cards and even a check signed by Honus Wagner post his baseball career, this auction is a true treasure trove for sports memorabilia aficionados.

Kicking off on Thursday, this expansive auction is set to span over ten days, featuring a wide array of items that stretch from the early days of baseball to modern sports cards. Among the early standout lots are the T206 White Border Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder card from 1909-1911 with a rare Uzit back, and a Ty Cobb rookie card from the 1907 Wolverine News Postcard series, both capturing the essence of a bygone era in baseball history.

The auction also shines the spotlight on vintage baseball sets such as the 1957 Topps Complete Set and the near-complete 1958 Topps set. Collectors can also discover several high-grade cards from the 1950s Bowman and Topps sets, including rookie cards of baseball legends Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, and Sandy Koufax. A complete set break of the iconic 1951 Bowman set adds further excitement to the lineup.

Memorabilia pieces are not to be missed in this auction, with highlights like a ticket stub from the 1957 NFL Championship Game and a 1920 Real Photo Postcard featuring the Harvard football team that graced the Rose Bowl.

REA President Brian Dwyer expressed his enthusiasm for the auction’s offerings, emphasizing the top-notch quality of the lots following the successful $15.4 million spring sale. He noted the strong interest from collectors and the premium nature of the pieces up for auction, making it a can’t-miss event for sports memorabilia enthusiasts.

With bidding open until May 19 on the REA website, collectors have the opportunity to acquire these rare and high-end sports memorabilia pieces, all the while celebrating the rich history encapsulated within these collectibles. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a sports fan looking to own a piece of history, the REA May Encore auction promises a thrilling journey through the annals of sports memorabilia.
